WELL...we have exciting news!
My husband has been offered and accepted a position in Phoenix!! It's not quite NM, but I'll take AZ over NY any day! He just accepted on Monday!
Here's the kicker...we're moving in two weeks! We talked it over, and though the person hiring was more than willing to wait until a month or two after we had the baby........we thought that it'd be easier to move now with three little ones than in a few months with three little ones AND a newborn! read more »
I'm tired of being pregnant. I'm at that point of the pregnancy where I just can't find a comfortable position to be in at all. A bath keeps sounding good, but as soon as I get in, I'm like, "oh" and I get bored. There's no comfy way to sleep...sit...stand...walk...pee. I can't concentrate on any activity for longer than a few minutes...like reading is beyond me right now...I can't focus on a whole TV show... read more »

As the mother of an adopted child, and because of the fond feelings I have for the baby's birthmother, I can't help but share this.
We were having a snack of cheese and crackers. The boys like to make sandwiches (one cheese between two crackers) with theirs. I asked N how many he wanted...he said, "two sandwiches...that's two cheeses and four crackers, mom." I gave him what he asked for, and then S said, "I want three sandwiches...how many crackers and cheeses is that?" N spoke right up and said, "six crackers, three cheeses." For kids who have never had a math lesson and learned this all on their own, I'm impressed. :)
N had just jumped over the three steps from the kitchen down into the garage, and was trying to convince S to do the same. S said he was scared, and that he might "break his leg." N thought for a minute and said, "Would you do it for a Scooby Snack???"
S jumped.
S (will be 4y in May) wants to be a midwife. He LOVES every appointment that we have with our midwives...and he's very into every part of the appointment. He'll listen for New Baby's heartbeat, and he knows it immediately. He'll say, "No, that's Mama's heart" or "There it is! read more »
A compelling story about one family's journey into the unknown territory of homeschooling, told with skill by Alison McKee, a gifted teacher with a wide experience in traditional education and a special sensitivity to the individual needs of children. Trusting her own children to "show me the way" was a difficult challenge - but one that gave unexpected and rich rewards. Anyone familiar with the writings of John Holt will be interested to learn how things worked out for a family that decided to test his belief that children are the best directors of their own education. read more »
I was reading "The Teenage Liberation Handbook" a few months ago, and feeling depressed that I hadn't discovered (because it hadn't been written yet!) the book when I was IN school. I got to thinking about what *would* have happened if I had read it as a teen... read more »
We were out at a shopping plaza parking lot this evening. As we're driving past HUGE mountains of snow (we got over a foot of snow last weekend), S says, "boy, someone is a good shoveler!" :)
N & S are ALL into Scooby-Doo right now...not the classic one that I used to watch...but one called "What's New Scooby Doo?" and one about Scooby as a puppy. It really freaks me out to hear Freddy talking about his cell phone or laptop...it's just not right. read more »
