Hello everyone! My name is Tracey (couldn't have guessed that from my user ID, huh?). I am married to a wonderful man named Carlos, I am a stay-at-home mom to three boys (N will be 6 in May, S will be 4 in May, and G will be 2 in May), and we are expecting another baby this summer. We live in Western New York state, just south of Buffalo for the time being...until we can get back to New Mexico!
Our boys have never been to school, and we have NO PLANS of ever sending them! We lean more towards "radical" unschooling, [attempting to] respect our children and encourage them at all times and in all areas of their lives. I learn from my children every day. We are evolving always.
We are planning a homebirth for this next baby, a new experience for all of us. N and S are figuring out how involved in that they think they'd like to be, and it has been quite touching.
I am so looking forward to "meeting" other unschooling families and friends here!

Hi Tracey,
Good luck with that homebirth. Someone I know in the next town did it and it went marvelously well for her and her baby. Then again, her baby never cries, she lost all her baby weight in 24 hours, and she never yells at her other 3 boys.
Right after high school I visited a pen pal in NM. Rio Rancho, to be exact. She ran over a snake. We visited McDonald's and they offered jalapenos right next to the ketchup.

NM is the best...we lived in
NM is the best...we lived in Bernalillo, right down the street from Rio Rancho. Yeah, you can order green chiles on anything, at any restaurant there...even McDonalds. My in-laws live in NM, and they have a freezer specifically to store green chile year-round. It's nuts...and I miss it... We're moving back there ASAP...whenever that might be. Plus, the homeschooling regs/laws/whatever there are soooooo much better than NY...NM only requires one letter a year stating that you will be homeschooling said child. NY's regs are NOT pretty...

Mmmmm
I would LOVE to have chilies available everywhere. That was one cool thing about London.
NM's homeschool laws sound nice. Much better than that scary court decision in CA.
Welcome!
Our kids (5 & almost 3) have never been to school and we plan on keeping it that way. We also lean towards the radical side, and I've been trying my best to respect them and let them be themselves. No two days are ever the same, but I keep seeing our kids just come up with fascinating questions and ideas. I imagine how stifled they would be if they were in school.
The homebirth sounds exciting - our son M (5) was born in a hospital birthing center, though we had a doctor who actually recommended homebirth. We had fears, and wish we'd gone with a homebirth. Our daughter J (almost 3) was born at home and it was a wonderful experience. The cool thing is that we can kinda share the experience with others - at the time we were asked if we would allow the birth to be filmed for a documentary promoting homebirth, and we agreed. The documentary, called Orgasmic Birth, was recently completed and we saw a screening in January. It was incredibly inspiring to see the different families and what wonderful birthing experiences they had.
I think that I've actually
I think that I've actually heard of this movie! I haven't seen it, but if I get the chance I will! We're planning on using HypnoBirthing, and I'm sure that water will be part of the labor/birth as well! My previous 4 births have all been in a hospital (including Pitosin and epidurals for the last 3...), so this will really be different! N (almost 6 years old) likes to do the relaxation exercises with me (self-hypnosis) at night. I'm so excited about this experience!
Thanks for the welcome, and thanks for starting up this site! Let's hope it takes off BIG!
