N & S are ALL into Scooby-Doo right now...not the classic one that I used to watch...but one called "What's New Scooby Doo?" and one about Scooby as a puppy. It really freaks me out to hear Freddy talking about his cell phone or laptop...it's just not right.
When the show isn't on, it's being acted out/played in our house. S is Scooby, and N is Shaggy, I get to be Daphne, Carlos is Velma, and G is Freddy. I'll hear them running around screaming about ghosts, monsters, headless horsemen, invisible madmen, etc., etc., ...then I'll hear S say, "Let's split up and look for clues!!" N will say, "Jinkies!" and they'll run off...S on hands and knees (he is a dog, after all).
We hear that
Ours are big on Scooby Doo too. I ordered some dvds from the library, a couple of which had, to Trish and my utter horror .... Scrappy Doo. Scrappy is a, um, dooche. The Cousin Oliver of Scooby Doo land.
M's all curious about dry ice now - he said to Trish
Let's get some dry ice, Trish! How do we dry the ice?
There's been a LOT of pretend play in the house involving ghosts, pirates and whatnot. Both of them dig the scary stuff - the old Disney Legend of Sleepy Hollow was like their link to Halloween while we were in Costa Rica last year (we missed Halloween :-()
I have to say I kinda like the newer full length Scooby movies (even the live action ones).
Scrappy! (said in Seinfeld's "Newman" tone, with fist)
I am not pleased with the boys meeting Scrappy Doo--but it has happened. I totally agree with your Oliver comparison. Ugh. They've seen the classic ones, but they really prefer "What's New", the puppy one, and the "movie with real people in it".
The other day, S asked me to play the one that didn't have any ghosts in it...silly boy...nearly all Scooby's have ghosts! (Turned out he wanted one with a Mummy).
Maybe after they've seen lots of the newer ones, I can introduce more of the classics...

Library?
The old series is available in a 4 dvd set. Our library system had that too. We have the movie with the Mummy - that was a pretty good one. M's finds pyramids to be interesting. I love delving into mythology and cultures with him.
Speaking of Newman...
The dentist we went to yesterday had a dog there named 'Newman.' Try as I might, the dog was so wonderfully friendly that I couldn't get the right Seinfeld intonation out of my mouth.
Classic Scooby
We have satellite for TV, and use a DVR to record all the shows that we'd like to watch...that way, we get to watch them when *we* want, and fast forward all the commercials (N calls them "previews"). Anyway, they show all kinds of Scooby shows (including "Scooby Doo, Where Are You?") on Cartoon Network. I have a bunch recorded for when they're ready... :)
