In the end, the secret to learning is so simple: Think only about whatever you love. Follow it, do it, dream about it...and it will hit you: learning was there all the time, happening by itself.

G (~22 months) was having a snack at the table last week. I was in the kitchen, and he came in, signing and saying "more". I wasn't sure what he wanted more OF, so I said, "more what?" He thought for a second, and said, "more, pwease." I actually was a little surprised at this reaction from him, since I *never* MAKE them say please, thank you, or anything like that.
I was telling my friend (who has very different parenting techniques...) this story, and she said "That's funny...something similar happened to us a few days ago." She went on to tell me that her daughter (who's just over 2 years old) was saying, "more", and she asked "More whaaaaat?" Her daughter thought and said, "milk". My friend had been looking for "more, please," and she was upset at the reaction.
Funny how that worked out, huh?
