found homeschooling related article in my recycling bag

This is my first entry and it is off-topic. I just wanted to share... can this be deleted later?

Tomorrow is Wednesday - a paper recycling day for us. Which, once in a few weeks means that I have to go through paper-recycling bags and sort *newspapers, *cardboard and *misc papers with junk mail from each other, bundle each pile separatly with twine (and throw away non-recycables like cereal and tisue boxes that my dh puts in there). I hate doing this. I wish I could just leave everything in that brown back and put it out for recycling truck. Anyways, this is all not related to home/unschooling, I just  like complaining :). Our friends have their mail forwarded to us (while they are away for few years), so we now receive The Ridgefield Press newspaper that goes directly to recycling bag. While sorting that today, my attention was caught by a "homeschoolers'" word on the first page of one of those newspapers. The article was named "Homeschoolers' testimony tells of fears after schools report 'educational neglect'. So I read the article. Parents pulled their special-needs children out of school. The school reported them as neglectful parents to the state Dept. of Children and Families. After a year of being reported this "Ridgefield couple provided written testimony to a legislative committee considering a bill designed to clarify what should happen when parents withdraw children... from public schools in order to homeschool them." Anyone wants the article? I'll probably recycle next time.

And recently on homeschooling list was a post "proposed bill to reinstate Spec Ed services for homeschooled children".

but at the end of the day how are they really looking out for, its all about the bottom line these days.

But I wouldn't say it's off-topic - we have the same legal issues to deal with as all homeschoolers do.  I'd be concerned if my child were labelled by a school system and I wanted to pull them out.  The matrix will try very hard to fight that.

always money...

"Government schools are a jobs project , one that hires two people for every one and a quarter needed."  John Taylor Gatto in The Exhausted School.

Did you know that NYC schools alone have over 30,000 administrative jobs?  Over 30,0000!  Of course these people need to be paid, through school taxes of course.  These taxes are divvied up to the school districts and individual schools with some sort of formula based on the NUMBER of children enrolled in the school.  So my school district stands to lose ~$15,000 from me homeschooling my girls.

Special needs kids bring in a LOT more money, like federal monies and such.   I think I heard an estimate somewhere between 2-3 times more than non-special needs children.   This explains the hoopla in New York and Connecticut regarding HOMESCHOOLED special needs children.  There is a lot of money at stake.   Indeed, the matrix will try hard to fight for it......

California was the beginning

I'm not surprised that the recent court case in California had the complete support of the teacher's union.  I think we'll see more of that as time goes on.  But ... it also reminds me of the medieval tactics the music industry has been using to combat piracy.  Rather than try to figure out what they are doing wrong or how they can improve, they are intent on maintaining the status quo.  The harsh legal maneuvering is a misguided fight for survival and a very well-guided fight for money.

One thing that I am really

One thing that I am really glad about is that we have never put any of our kids in school.  I feel bad for parents who put their kids in school for a few years, had them classified, and now want to pull them out.  Getting them classified by a beaurocracy seems like a bad road to take.
