Children do not need to be made to learn about the world, or shown how. They want to, and they know how.

You have to wonder how things happen some times. How did we end up searching the Internet for information about music, you ask? We were making up poems. Such as the ever classic "birdie, birdie in the sky, why'd you pooh pooh in my eye?" and things along that continuum. Scatological humor works, especially when Mommy does it. I was explaining how the pentameter of the lines should be equal for this type of poem. That lead to a quick Wikipedia search to get a better definition of "pentameter" for them. That lead to taking an on line test for rhythm and tone deafness. In the meantime, we learned a whole bunch of things: rhythm, clefs, half notes, sharps, flats...the whole of it. These things are completely foreign to me as I am truly - no joke - tone deaf. The results of my tone deafness test were miserably below average. Rhythm, I have, but comprehending musical tones, I do not. Perhaps none of the musical knowledge will stick, but it was interesting to me how we ended up there.
