Site news

Just a quick heads up on my thoughts & feelings on the site.  I'm happy with the activity - I always envisioned it growing organically, bit by bit.  I'm not happy with the layout, which should be more inviting and sensible.  Like (I think) bmxracermom said, it looks like a blog.  So I've been kicking around ideas for improvements, which I hope to start in earnest after the weekend of May 16. (Why May 16?  That's when Orgasmic Birth, the documentary that features J's birth, is featured on 20/20.  The last 2 weeks I've been working on that site like crazy.)

So leading up to then, I'm going to work on a redesign that brings a more newspaper feel and organizes things better.  I'm going to look at other social networking sites for ideas too (and any suggestions on things are most welcome).

Some things I'd like to add are a fixed navigation bar (see www.echoleaf.com - when you scroll down the page, the nav stays put), photo galleries and improved profile pages (I started on this last one already).  Also focussing on more content on the front page, like trying to figure out what's hot based on activity.

Some things I'd consider removing are forums (which seem redundant with groups) and maybe finding a better way to implement a control panel (or if it's even needed).

As usual, comments and suggestions are always welcome.
