Ads & revenue sharing

Ads are ubiquitous online, but I'm pretty sure that people who go to a blog regularly don't click on the ads. I know I don't. For my other blog, I found a cool plugin that turned off ads for frequent visitors, so anyone who visited our site regularly didn't see any ads at all.

That exact function doesn't exist here, but I configured the closest thing - the 2 most noticeable ads on each page can only be seen by non-members. So if you are a member and you are logged in, you won't see the ad in the upper right corner and all the way at the bottom of the page. I thought members might appreciate not seeing them.

Another thing with ads is that the typical social networking site collects ad money while the site is built by its members. Shouldn't members get something? I certainly think so, thus we have revenue sharing. Here's how to do it:

1) Get a Google Adsense account from www.google.com/adsense
2) You'll be assigned a publisher ID that looks something like pub-9999999999999
3) Go to your account, click the Edit tab, and then click *private information*.
4) Enter your publisher ID into the Google AdSense ID box and click Submit.

Voila - instant revenue sharing. Once this publisher ID is submitted, every blog entry, forum topic or group entry that member makes will result in ad money being split 50/50. I can't say I've made very much from my other websites, but you never know.

I have never heard of this before so thanks for the info. Tonight I joined but the message says it takes 1-2 days for a reply. I want to start getting rich now, waaaaah! ;)

Okay, I've got my publisher code and have it entered. I'm not at all sure what it is I've done, but I'll trust your guidance that it's good.

It's basically fairness

There's hardly any traffic on the site right now - it's just us testers. Google FINALLY started to show some pages in its search results yesterday, so hopefully the whole site will be on Google in the next few days. It's ok for now, but it would be nice to be able to get the site search going, since it relies on Google.

With the ads, it may take quite some time before any results show, but I'm hopeful that will change as the site grows.
